Dowlat Phiroze Mulla

Teacher, Cub Scout Leader, House Mentor

1925 – 18 December 2002

Legendary Regularity Earned medals for 100% attendance; said she only fell ill during vacations.
Trailblazer Started cub scouts at B.V.S., led training after school, championed sports and house spirit.
Honored Service Awarded Tamgha-e-Khidmat (Gold Medal) in 1965 for her dedication.

Born in 1925, Dowlat Mulla was the eldest of five siblings. She completed matriculation in 1941, Inter-science in 1944, a Montessori diploma in 1946, and her Secondary Teachers Certificate in 1948. She joined B.V.S. on February 10, 1948, dedicating 54 years to the school and her boys.

In 1965 she received the Tamgha-e-Khidmat (Gold Medal) from Field Marshal Mohammad Ayub Khan. Her regularity and punctuality were legendary—she earned a medal for 100% attendance at every Annual Prize Distribution and often said she only fell ill during vacations, never during term time.

Miss Mulla was relentless about learning, attending numerous training courses, especially in Mathematics and Science. She started the cub scouts at B.V.S. and stayed after school to groom the young scouts. She oversaw the Bhojan Fund and taught Gujarati and Religious Studies. Her voice led the school song each week at assembly.

Single by choice, she poured her energy into her students’ success. She loved sports and extracurriculars, urging participation in healthy outdoor pursuits. As a house teacher she cheered her house to repeated “cock house” titles and was first to arrive for 5 AM marathons at Clifton—her unmatched sense of duty on display.

Toward the end of her career, failing health made it difficult to come to school, yet she gave her best until a stroke in October 2002 ended her teaching. Within six weeks she passed away on December 18, 2002, after completing 54 years of teaching.

We miss Miss Mulla and thank her for the dedication, love, and memories she gave us. BVS Virbaijeeites — eyes right for this great teacher we will always love and remember.
